ABOUT THE CLIENT
The mission of the company is to help combat the childhood obesity epidemic with the support of the restaurant industry.
The team of registered dietitians analyzes and approves wholesome restaurant meals that focus on whole grains, lean proteins, and fruits and veggies. The company works with restaurants that care about the health of their guests and the community and through the Healthy Dining School Rewards Program, provide much-needed funding for school wellness programs.
THE REQUIREMENT
The company through its public health research program wanted to connect the local restaurants with local schools in the USA. The purpose of the program is to create a year-round restaurant-focused fundraiser that specifically supports wellness programs at elementary schools. In the US, with such initiatives in place schools are taking a lead in partnering with local restaurants to promote school wellness programs.
Participating restaurants pay a monthly fee to be in the program. All these fees go to the program to be shared by the school districts, evenly amongst all elementary schools for wellness programs, such as PE and playground equipment and school gardens, etc.
THE SOLUTION
The healthy dining app for our client by Emorphis Technologies boasts a new smartphone app employing cutting-edge beacon technology. This technology enables parents and community residents to easily find participating restaurants and their healthy dining and kids’ live well-approved menu choices as well as provides the tracking of the restaurant visits correlating to the financial contributions by the restaurants.
The mobile app is a win-win for everyone involved. Students are eating healthy and getting active; schools get funding for their health and wellness programs, (which are often otherwise underfunded); restaurants give back to the community; and everyone who eats at participating restaurants chooses healthy foods and is supporting kids’ wellness at the same time.
